LIONEL ELECTRIC TRAINS RUTLAND BOXCAR 1955 LIONEL # 6464-300 Up for auction is an original 1955 Lionel #6464-300 RUTLAND BOXCAR BOXCAR. This car is used, but in decent, original condition. As you can see in the photos, this car is in good shape. The car looks to be original, and has no cracks that I can see. There are a few "scuff" marks, but nothing too serious. The lettering is clean and easy to read.I don't see any signs of rust on any of the metal parts. The car rolls freely, and both couplers work as do the sliding door. This car does not have it's original box, but I will make sure it is wrapped in foam, and thick cardboard for it's journey to the winning bidder ! History (from ) The 6464-300 Rutland box car was introduced in 1955 and was only produced for two years. It's a colorful and accurate model of the real-life Rutland boa car seen in the United States in the 1950s. Although the Rutlnd was produced for only two years, there are many variations dealing with specific detail of the body mold and lettering. To keep things simple, this web page will discuss the common variations. Features The 6464-300 box car included the following standard features: yellow shell painted green with yellow lettering on the green portion and green lettering on the yellow section. Bar-end trucks with magnetic couplers were standard as was a metal frame, a sliding side door on each side and a single brakewheel. Other features common to a specific year are: 1955 - The side doors were generally the multi-block type and the 'R' in Rutland was printed in the first panel from the left. 1956 - The side doors were generally the single-block type and the 'R' in Rutland was printed in the second panel from the left. There are many instances where a single block door is on a 1955 box car and vice-verse. This usually indicates it was manufactured in late 1955 or early 1956. This item came out of a estate collection that I purchased recently. Its original owner had been collecting 'O' scale trains for over 50 years. I knew him very well and he only collected original pieces and had no time for fakes or knockoffs. He has passed on and now his collection is being sold off. Mark me as a favorite seller as there will be a lot of 'O' scale listed and sold.This is a super nice, original Lionel piece, that would make a great addition to any Post-War Lionel collection! I am starting all of these post war cars with a low opening bid, and selling them with no reserve! My knowledge is limited on all of this vintage Lionel product. I am not a Lionel Expert. I have researched the items as best as I could, and am listing them as is, in the condition that you see in the photos. The pieces are as they came out of the storage containers, most of them wrapped in newspaper from the early 1980's - My description is based on what I am looking at in front of me, and what I have found out about the original piece when it was Manufactured. I am not the original owner and I don't have any knowledge as to what has happened to each item from it's original sale date - to this point in time.
