Pleas e have confidence in my 100% honest descriptions and please read the following carefully:This is a Lionel Pre-War, "O" Gauge "Lionel Jr." No. 6208W Streamline Passenger Train Set, Circa 1937. I believe this set to be 100% original paint, parts & lettering. Included are the No. 1688E Pennsylvania "Torpedo" type streamlined steam locomotive with a No. 1689T tender. The passenger cars include No. 1673 Coach Car, No. 1674 Pullman Car and a No. 1675 Observation Car.The Greenberg Pre-War Set book says that this set should have had a 1689W tender with a whistle, but this is how the set was found. The same book also says that the coupler on the front of the head end car, should be a different style than the latch coupler you see here, but as you can see from the photos, this latch coupler was factory installed, as it is just about impossible to replace that coupler, without bending the frame, which would result in severely damaging the paint. I truly believe that this is how this set came from the factory.THE HUGE DEAL HERE, is the way this set was packed from the factory, using the corrugated wrappers for the cars, rather than boxes. I have only seen these wrappers one other time, in my almost 50 years of collecting old trains. Ask most collectors and they will tell you that they have never even heard of them. Can you even imagine how few of these were ever saved? The kid tears them open and they are immediately trashed. These wrappers MUST be as rare as most any Lionel box ever made. The wrappers you see here, however, are about the best you will ever see and are a very unique collectible for those of us who appreciate and collect boxed trains and sets.There is some minor rust on the tender drawbar & coupler, which should mostly polish off fairly easily. The paint on the cars still has the factory shine and they are just gorgeous! I have not put power to the loco, so I have no idea if it runs or not, but the drive wheels turn nicely, turning the gears that turn the armature. The original set box is included, but one inner flap is loose and the box is showing its age. The set box is dated 1937. There are no boxes for the loco or tender.
