LIONEL ELECTRIC TRAINS LIONEL LINES BAY WINDOW CABOOSE LIONEL - 6517 Up for auction is a LIONEL 6517 BAY WINDOW CABOOSE produced in 1955/59. This car came from an estate collection and is classed as used but in excellent condition. All the lights work as they should. The paint is solid and a ll the lettering is easy to read. This piece has no box but will be packed with care. History The 6517 is a common item manufactured in the late 1950's and was Lionel's top-of-the-line caboose for their O gauge line. Based upon looks, the bay window caboose was a radical change from the standard cabooses in the Lionel family. This change was well received by the train community as it remained in production for five years along with a brief appearance in 1966. For the first five years, the bay window caboose was produced with Lionel Lines as the roadname. When the caboose was re-introduced for a single year (1966), it worn the Erie roadname on its sides. The Erie version is a desireable caboose and very difficult to locate. This is also the only postwar caboose to ever have the Erie roadname. Features The 6517 standard features did not change during the entire production cycle. They include: red painted body with white lettering, dual operating couplers, 027 gauge passenger car trucks, dual ladders, end-railings, illumination plus a small smokestack and center window shades. You are bidding on exactly what is pictured, and that's what will be shipped to the winning bidder. This item came out of a estate collection that I purchased recently. It's original owner had been collecting 'O' scale trains for over 50 years. I knew him very well and he only collected original pieces and had no time for fakes or knockoffs. He has passed on and now his collection is being sold off. Mark me as a favorite seller as there will be a lot of 'O' scale listed and sold.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My knowledge is limited on all of this vintage Lionel product. I am not a Lionel Expert. I have researched the items as best as I could, and am listing them as is, in the condition that you see in the photos. The pieces are as they came out of the storage containers, most of them wrapped in newspaper from the early 1980's - My description is based on what I am looking at in front of me, and what I have found out about the original piece when it was Manufactured. I am not the original owner and I don't have any knowledge as to what has happened to each item from it's original sale date - to this point in time. This is a super nice, original Lionel piece, that would make a great addition to any Post-War Lionel collection, or would work well for parts! I will start this piece low, and it will sell with NO reserve! This piece is extremely hard to find, especially in this condition.
