Lot of 25 Eisenhower IKE Dollars (25 Coins) While the IKE Dollar is often referred to as a "Silver Dollar", t is no silver content in the coin. The term silver refers to the color of the coin... not the material used to make the coin. During the years 1971-1978, the U.S. government issued out the Eisenhower Dollar. It was the first U.S. dollar that did not make use of a precious metal. In fact, it was composed of 100% copper, with its outer layer composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel.The Eisenhower Dollar was America's last large size Dollar coin ever minted and is a treasured piece of American history. The Ike Dollar will always hold a special place in the heart of any American coin collectors. The Ike Dollar holds the largest portrait of a president, or any real person for that matter, to ever appear on a regular-issue American coin.
