Up for auction is a lovely kokeshi nodder samurai and wife with elegant kimonos. They are heading out to dinner and wore their finest kimono for the evening. The elegant kimonos are absolutely beautiful with various shades of green, brown and cranberry accentuating their kimonos. Their faces are a nice warm patina, and their expressions are very calming. The samurai is 5 1/4 inches tall and his wife is 5 inches. They both have very fancy hairstyles that are held in place with a nicely painted ribbon on both dolls. Due to age, t is some paint loss and a few dings. The paint loss is mostly on the sides and back of the samurai's kimono. The samurai is unmarked, but the wife has "MADE IN JAPAN" stamped on the bottom. But, these two would definitely enhance any kokeshi collection with their wonderful kimonos.Kokeshi was first made in the northern provinces of Japan about 150 years ago. Kokeshi was originally made as a toy for children of farmers. It developed into a modern craft from a simple toy as the countryside developed culturally. Having outgrown the status of being a toy for children. Kokeshi is now recognized as one of the traditional folk arts of Japan. Kokeshi is handmade by skilled craftsmen entirely from wood-cutting to painting. We hope you appreciate the Japanese tradition and art.All items listed are used unless otherwise read more
