Colmont Green Enamel Opera Glasses A quality pair of early 20th century French gilt-metal opera glasses, the MOP eye pieces inscribed Colmont Ft - Paris. The barrels, focus wheel and handle are covered in green g uilloché enamel which is decorated with gold swags and stars. The gilding/gold wash shows wear and there are aseries of dings around one of the objective lenses. There is a bit of discolouration to the enamel surrounding the eyepiece, it seems that metal holding the lens has rusted at some time and this has discoloured the metal. I have managed to remove some by wiping it and it possible with careful cleaning this could be improved upon. I have also recently discovered a crack in the enamel on the inside of one of the barrels. The enamel is intact, however as shown in the last picture there is a small section ½ inch by ¼ inch which has also become discoloured as a result of a knock. The lenses are clear and the focusing is smooth. The telescopic handle is approx 13cm long closed and extend once exposing gilt/gold wash metal to 25cm. The glasses themselves are 6.5cm high and open up to 8.5cm. Width of the glasses is 10cm.
