The Artist- Takeuchi Seiho was born Takeuchi Tsunekichi in Kyoto during the Meiji era- 1864. His father owned a restaurant in Kyoto . He first developed as an artist in the late 19th century and at the age of 14 and became a student of Eirin Tsuchida. Later he became a student of the famous artist Kono Barei. Seiho first trained in the tradition of Japanese Shijo painting and his style was traditionally Japanese. In 1888 at 24 years old, he established the "Kyoto Young Artist's Institute". Then, in 1900 he traveled to Europe to study Western painting. It was his experiences and training in Europe that greatly influenced Seiho's fully developed style. A blend of Japanese Shijo painting and Western art became a style uniquely his own. Seiho's favorite, and most famous subjects are animals and other objects from nature. He also did some beautiful landscape prints. Today, collectors treasure Seiho's rare works. Seiho is recognized the world over as one of Japan 's great 20th century artists. His prints are included in museums around the world and in Japan . In Japanese museums some of Seiho's prints have been given the recognition "important cultural treasure".
