Here is a true masterpiece in resin depicting a scene from one of the masterpieces of silent cinema, Artomic Creations' elaborate 1997 model kit of Conrad Veidt in Universal's grotesque horror romance The Man Who Laughs (1928). One could see how this sordid tale of a royal child whose face is surgically disfigured into permanent grin would serve as a vehicle for Lon Chaney, but Chaney had moved to MGM so the role was given to Conrad Veidt. Directed by Paul Hein, the film was too bizarre and ghastly for audiences of the day, and would remain unseen for many years until being rediscovered and now recognized as one of the classics of silent horror. This meticulously detailed and painted kit features Veidt in all his splendor, wig and gold-laced jacket standing on the carnival stage. The model kit alone retails for over $250, so unless you are one if a handful of model artists who can make a kit look like this, you will save a bundle by placing a bid in this no reserve auction with a 99 cent opening bid.
