A man’s 9ct yellow gold band ring in the traditional New Zealand Maori “fish hook” and plaited flax design. This is a very handsome and unusual ring - we also have a matching ladies ring in this category. They would make a wonderful set of wedding rings. The fish hook design is a Maori motif, literally shaped in the fashion of a traditional pre-European fish hook, the “matau”. The “woven flax” (raranga) effect on the side of the ring face echoes the traditional weaving of the Maori people - flax kete (bags) were woven for carrying the fish, and the whole is a symbol of always being provided for - a good luck symbol for one’s journey through life. Just before the matua is a koru symbol - the curled new shoot of the ponga or silver fern tree. This symbolises moving forwards in life. The band width is 7mm (just over 1/4 inch), and the ring size is English fitting T - USA size 9.1/2 to 10. In new condition.
