You are bidding on a wood-fired bowl by North Carolina master potter Mark Hewitt. ( It was featured in a solo exhibition at Lacoste Gallery in Concord, MA.) DESCRIPTION: The basic glaze on this exceptional bowl is a deep chestnut brown with lovely black speckled markings. It is decorated with one continuous tan ribbon that snakes its way around the interior of the bowl. T are also polka dots scattered throughout. The bowl is just shy of 8" in diameter and stands 2 1/4" tall. It is in mint condition- no chips, cracks or repairs- and has Mark Hewitt's personal stamp on the bottom. This is a no reserve auction. ABOUT MARK HEWITT : Mark Hewitt was born in 1955 in Stoke-on-Trent , England . His father and grandfather were directors of Spode. Between 1976 and 1982, he apprenticed with Michael Cardew at Wenford Bridge Pottery and then with Todd Piker at Cornwall Bridge Pottery in Connecticut . Shortly tafter he established his own pottery at Pittsboro , North Carolina . In addition to producing large planters, storage jars, and vases, he makes a full range of high quality tableware.
