This auction is for a very nice piece of early North Carolina Sung Dynasty style three handled vase that you would normally associate with the early Jugtown creations. Marked on the base as shown, from the North State Pottery in Sanford. The vase measures about 7 inches tall, and about 19 inches around the fattest portion of the ovoid belly. The vase flares down from the mid belly to a neck with a distinct collar, then to a slightly rolled rim. The three handles are split down the middle, giving it a ribbon type effect. Displaying a very rich lead glaze with lots of spotting and lots of manganese black runs and lines. To be considered a rare form from this shop. Condition as noted , No cracks or Repairs! T are three chips and multiple glaze flakes around the opening of the rim. One of the handles has a chip on the top edge. These glaze flakes and chips would be very easy repairs for someone that knows what they are doing. Considering the early age, the form offered and the mark, you will still have a beautiful display piece to add to your collection.
