Marx Postwar Western PacificDouble Diesel Electric Train SetNo Box, Track, Or Transformer For your consideration is this set of Marx trains. Sorry, no original set box, track, or transformer. These trains are in excellent condition for their age. They have been played with very gently; they are considerably nicer than most 1950's trains that I have come across in the past. I will do my best to describe these pieces. There are 6 pieces total: Two #901 Western Pacific diesel locomotives (powered and dummy units), a #51100 Southern Flatcar Auto Loader with 4 Cars, a #43461 Pacific Fruit Express Boxcar, a #4571 WECX Drop-Center Flatcar with Searchlight and Generator, and a #5586 WP Work Caboose. All pieces are offered in as found condition. They have been examined and deemed to be complete and operative. No warranty of any kind is offered or implied. The following descriptions are derived from information in the Eighth Edition of Greenberg's Marx Trains Price Guide from 2001. Powered Locomotive: This is a #901 Western Pacific A-unit diesel, made from 1956-1960. It's motor probably could use a thorough cleaning and lubrication, but it ran well when attached to my test transformer. The headlight shined brightly, and the reverse unit functioned. I could find no obvious flaws in the locomotive shell. Both ornamental horns are attached. All steps are intact. One tab and slot coupler is attached to the rear end. Nothing appears to be broken. This unit is in really nice shape overall. Price guide value of $40.00-$65.00. Dummy Locomotive: Except for being unpowered, this dummy locomotive is identical to the powered unit . Both horns and all steps are present. It has metal wheels and axles. Again, really nice condition. It has a tab and slot coupler on the rear and a tilting fork coupler on the front. $40.00-$65.00 per price guide. Auto Loader: This is a maroon #51100 Southern 8-wheel plastic flatcar with gray auto loader superstructure, manufactured from 1950-1958. There are four 4-door sedans, which look somewhat like early 1950's Fords included. I have no idea if these are original or reproduction autos, but they don't seem out of place with these trains. The freight car has metal wheels and axles, and plastic tilting fork couplers. Excellent condition. Valued at $20.00-$40.00. Boxcar: This is a white #43461 Pacific Fruit Express 8-wheel plastic boxcar, made in 1955. It has operating doors. It has metal wheels and axles, and plastic tilting fork couplers. Again, very nice. $10.00-$15.00 per price guide. Searchlight Car: This is a red #4571 WECX 8-wheel plastic drop-center flatcar with gray searchlight and generator. It was made from 1955-1965. The brakewheel is present. It has metal wheels and axles and plastic tilting fork couplers. The light shines brightly. Excellent condition. $20.00-$40.00 valuation. Caboose: This is a maroon #5586 WP 8-wheel plastic work caboose, from 1957. It has metal wheels and axles, and two plastic tilting fork couplers. Very, very nice. $15.00-$25.00 valuation. I am by no means a Marx expert. I have described the items to the best of my ability by referring to the previously identified source. Please study the photos and ask questions. on this nice group of old trains that displays well. Here is a chance to obtain a nice vintage Marx train for a bargain price! It would make a fine addition to any collection, or would be a great initial start for the beginning collector. Add a couple more plastic freight cars and you're well on your way to the beginnings of a very colorful Marx Empire!!!
