Early Frederick County legal document dated April 25, 1787 signed by three Revolutionary War era residents. Boldly signed in lower right is the signature of William Ritchie whose home was built in 1750 and believed to be the first Court House and site of the repudiation of the Stamp Act of 1765. The document is an arrest summons for a Robert Hammett, yeoman for an unpaid debt of nine pounds, twelve shillings. Signed on the reverse is the signature of Thomas Beatty whose family is associated with the Beatty-Cramer House near Ceresville, Md. A wonderful piece of 18 th century Frederick County Maryland history. Document is approximately 4" by 8" in size, with an original fold down the center. Condition is excellent except for approx. ¾ inch separation at the edge of the crease. Does not detract from its overall appearance.
