Matchbox Yesteryear Y13-1American General Class Locomotive 1862 Scale 1:112 Produced 1959 Weight for postage200g I think this must be one of the oldest models Matchbox Yesteryear made, and one of the smallest in scale, but still an important model for a collector. I personally didn’t like the original colours, I think this looks a lot more convincing, but like a long distance cyclist I think it should really have a tender behind. I sprayed the chassis and smokestack black, the top of the cinder catcher is polished to a silver finish while the body is blue with a black roof. The top of the condenser, bell and the other thingy are painted silver, the boiler door has been polished, the wheels have been sprayed silver; the free display box uses some original graphics but it’s something I made up and not a reproduction. The diecasts suffixed ‘Code 3’ are home restorations , they may contain replacement or home made parts, the paint will not be as good as a factory finish, the casting may have small blemishes or dents, they are not toys and wont stand up to the same stresses as factory models. Base plates are glued on and usually have dummy epoxy putty rivets, if windows are original they will have been polished but may still have damage, replacement windows aren’t always a good fit.
