sGenuine Romanian Bani of Radu I 1377-1383 Dracula Rare coin Romania Wallachia AE 1 4mm. (VF) Well centered nice specimen. Original green- brown patina. Not cleaned. E xactly as pictured. Obverse: Sunburst with Latin and Cyrillic letters. Reverse: Cross with four 6-ray stars, within dotted border. ref: MBR 78a. Authenticity guaranteed. This coin was issued by Radu I (~1377 - 1383), brother of the famous Vlaicu I (1364 - ~1377) and father of the glorious Mircea the Old. This voivod (reigning prince) achieved for the first time for him and his descendants the title of Great Voivod (appearing on coins also). Yet short reigned, a large variety of silver coins comes from his period. Vlad Tepes of the House of Basarab was a real, historical prince. He ruled Wallachia in Romania from 1456 to 1462 AD. The name Dracul(a), meaning little dragon, was inherited from his famous father, Vlad Dracul, who fought alongside Sigismund of Hungary in war against the Turks. Sigismund bestowed his thanks upon Dracul by knighting him into the Dragon Order, which was created to fight for both Christianity and the Hungarian king. His son Dracula (+a meaning "son of" Dracul) swore his life to bloody warfare against the Islamic Turkish invaders of his Chrisitan homeland.
