RARE JAPANESE MEN'S BLACK VINTAGE SILK FORMAL HAORI (JACKET) KIMONO WITH WONDERFUL SILK LINING Men's kimono are rarely offered in the UK ebay and never at this price. This haori has a wonderful silk lining. This is a superb example of a vintage, hand-sewn, black, smooth, lustrous, silk, mid-weight, men's haori (jacket) kimono. The silk has a fine woven texture and is not as shiney as some other types of this kind of jacket. The lining is fine glossy, silk with a lovely deep coloured striped pattern. It is masculine and elegant. This type of kimono would be used in Japan for formal wear. This is the most formal type of jacket with 5 mon (family crest from the samurai traditions) 3 across the back and 2 on the front. The mon on this jacket is particularly lovely as it is large and complex array of a flower and two leaves within a circle. It would make a superb and unique jacket or display item. Haori are short kimono jackets worn over full length kimonos and sometimes hakama. The sleeves are worn shorter than other kimonos. They are not designed to close in front but are worn open. They can have two tying cords called Himo that are knotted across the chest. (not included). I am selling some himo separately please see the other listings. Traditionally they were only worn by men but in the early 19 th century, it became fashionable for women to wear them also. They make excellent and unusual jackets or wall displays. AGE: The kimono is completely hand stitched and probably dates from the mid-late showa period (1926-1989). It is difficult to date some kimono accurately as they have been made the same way for decades. CONDITION: The kimono is in excellent vintage condition. I found no major faults. There is a little creasing from storage. The mon crest are very slightly yellowed. SIZE: I think it would fit most average sized men. However, as Japanese man's sizes are generally smaller than average European men's sizes, please check the size. Sleeve edge to sleeve edge width is 131cm/51.5”, overall length is106cm/41.5", the width across the back (side seam to side seam) is a at 61cm/24”. The weight is 600g. The weight is reflected in the postal costs. If you need any more information or pictures just email me.
