Vintage Collector's Plate 10 ½" Diameter, Ultra Form Sepia Brown tone on White Made and Designed by Vernon Kilns, California Pottery Los Angeles ca. 1940s-early 50's This is a lovely, old Mesa, Arizona decorative collector's plate from Vernon Kilns. According to Bill Stern (2001), Vernon Kilns was one of the well known "Big Five" of the Southern California Pottery group (p. 42, California Pottery: From Missions to Modernism ). The plate depicts a variety of traditional and historic sites in Mesa (please see photos below) including: Superstition Mountain The Lost Dutchman with Burro Roosevelt Dam Pima Indians Maricopa Indians Maricopa Inn The Mormon Temple The back of the plate is inscribed underglaze with a caricature map of the Mesa geographic area, including, Apache Junction, Chandler, Phoenix, Tempe, Glendale, Heiroglypic Rocks, Canyon Lake, State College (now, "Arizona State University"), Hopi Village.
