An original silver 1908 Messina Earthquake Commemorative medal. The medal is in very good condition. There are a few small rim dinks here and there, but nothing bad. The ribbon is a good quality modern replacement. The King of Italy rewarded Royal Naval and other personnel who went to the aid of victims of the tragic earthquake that hit Messina in December 1908 with this silver medal. Officers & men from the following ships were involved in the relief operations: HMS Duncan, HMS Euralyus, HMS Exmouth, HMS Lancaster, HMS Minerva, HMS Sutlej, HMS Boxer, & HMS Philomel.
