Metropolitan Police Whistle manufactured by J.Hudson & Co,84 Buckingham Street,Birmingham.This whistle probably dates 1883/84 as after that date Hudson's address was Barr Street. The whistle also has a hand engraved number of 6906. Whistle is complete with chain fob.An old and interesting item. PS. Since listing this item I have done some further research and have come up with the following: The whistle body dates to 1883 to 1884 but the top and mouthpiece have both been replaced at some point. The problem with the internal diaphragm of these early whistles were that they were prone to collapse as they were weak in design, the Met sent them back to Hudson's for repair, a cheaper option than buying new, often the case they had both top and mouthpiece replaced, occasionally the original one piece cast top would remain with a new mouthpiece, with mine both top and bottom have been replaced,but this is still a very nice item especially as its over 120 years old
