I believe this to be a miniature portrait of Marie deRabutin-Chantal, a French woman of letters. This is painted on bone or a similar naturalmaterial in a guilded metal frame with an etched metal surrounding the oval picture. The colors are very vibrant and the portraitis very detailed. Marie is wearing a redshirred dress with a lacy bonnet. Theportrait is signed 'Leroy'. This portraitis most likely from the late 1800s or early 1900s. Marie de Rabutin-Chantal was born in1626. The frame measures 6 ½ " x 5 ½". The oval picture measures 2 ½" x 3¼". There is a metal stand attached to the back of the frame.
