K. Muralidharan Indian Contemporary International Artist of India Original Hindu PaintingChennai Tamil Surrealist LA Glasgow London Hong KongOil or acrylic with mixed media on canvas, 23 x 23 inches (24.25 x 24.25 x 1.25 inches framed), signed on reverse of canvas K. Muralidharan and also inscribed (see detail images). Framed in likely original and probably artist hand painted black wooden molding.Provenance: Charity fundraising estate sale near Sanibel Island, Florida, USA, 2013. Condition: In as discovered estate condition, compelling technique, execution & subject matter combination. The paint is very heavy & has sand type medium applied in close lines of horizontal impasto throughout work. This original artist technique appears to have led to development of some waves & rear crease lines in supporting canvas often seen in older paintings with heavy paint applications. This had led to a bump in the forehead & several long diagonal lines of fine craquelure across face. If you study canvases of the great bravura painters of past generations many have similar & sometimes much more pronounced paint characteristics. Ideally the canvas should be consolidated from the rear with an infusion or lining by a conservator sometime in the next generation to stabilize the paint. Additionally several edges have concentrations of tiny inconsequential flakes, there is some scattered small craquelure, some specks of paper adhesion and a few frame scuffs.
