is an authentic and VERY WELL CARVED HOPI CORN MAIDEN or a HANA MANO or TEWA GIRL Kachina from the 1960-1975 range, and she is in excellent condition! The Kachinas are spirits who live in the San Francisco Peaks (an "extinct" volcano) near Flagstaff, Arizona, they come down from their mountain home at certain times of the year to interact in their various forms with the Hopi People on the three ancient Mesa Pueblos for the Kachina Dances. You can visit the Hopi Mesas to see them dance in their human form, t is even a hotel t now! I used to live at the Grand Canyon SR Village in the early 1970's and visited the Hopi Mesas often as a teenager...things have changed on Hopi Land since I used hang out t, they barely had electricity and TV antenna back then!Expertly carved and painted by a master Hopi maker - due to age the carver is unknown. This is a very FINE Kachina, with quality wood, painting and overall workmanship!!! A Great looking and uncommon Kachina! She is an elongated Kachina being 7 1/4" tall, and 2 1/2" wide at fists. No damage to body or appendages, no paint loss or breaks - Excellent condition!!! Note the fine carving and paint job on this gal!
