Charming lidded box in the form of a book with cover embossed with a 2-masted sailing ship under full sail. Must be near land as sea birds can be seen in the sky.I believe this was intended as a cigarette / tobacco box based on the bakelite interior which makes it airtight. A humidor.Cast grey metal (spelter) by Jennings Brothers, their mark JB on the bottom. Ca. 1930.Condition is great. No damage to the box itself: hinge is solid, lid sits flat and tight. Interior bakelite panels are unbroken with top piece still held in place by original screws. Bronze-colored finish is original, shows a few wear spots on the top but otherwise has aged to a lovely patina. The piece itself sits flat and stable.2 inches high; 5 3/8 inches X 4 inches. Interior is 1 3/8 inches deep.Perfect gift for the sailor who needs to keep his powder dry. Really perfect for Colorado if it had a coastline.US shipping only. FREE SHIPPING via USPS.
