This beautiful Navajo doll is a classic Navajo doll from the 1950's. She wears the traditional outfit of the older Navajo women, created by a Navajo woman in her own likeness. Her shirt is made from grey corduroy which is decorated with glass beads. The skirt she wears is made from a beautiful orange and blue cotton fabric. Around her waist is a fabric belt. Each ear has a beaded earring. This lovely doll has hand-drawn features on a light-brown fabric face. Her facial features are framed with black wool hair tied back into the traditional bun of the Navajo people. She is firmly stuffed with fabric. With this beautiful Navajo woman is a cradle board also made in a culturally authentic manner. The cradle board is made with a wooden frame and has leather around the sides, laced with a strand of beads. Inside the cradle board is a little plaid flannel blanket. This is a wonderful set - a tall 10" doll wearing a gorgeous outfit and a 4 1/2" wooden cradle board with pretty glass beads and a soft blanket. Finding a doll of this quality with a miniature Navajo cradle board is rare and would be a great addition to a collection.
