This rare, strikingly detailed " FBI's Most Wanted " poster-style Challenge Coin commemorates the highly skilled, dedicated, and courageous service of the Joint Special Operations Forces , U.S. Intelligence Agencies , and others who participated in Operation Neptune Spear .Osama bin Laden , the founder and head of the Islamist militant group Al-Qaeda , was killed in his Pakistan hide-out on May 2 , 2011 , by U.S. Navy SEAL s of the Naval Special Warfare Development Group (also known as DEVGRU or SEAL Team Six ). The raid on bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad , Pakistan , code-named Operation Neptune Spear , was launched from Afghanistan in a Central Intelligence Agency -led operation. In addition to DEVGRU , participating units included the U.S. Army Special Operations Command 's 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) ( 160th SOAR " Night Stalkers ") and CIA operatives.The SEAL s engaged with residents in the compound's guest house and on the first and second floors of the main building, before shooting and killing bin Laden on the third floor. The SEAL team leader then radioed, " For God and country - Geronimo , Geronimo , Geronimo ". After being prompted for confirmation by Vice Admiral William McRaven , the commander of the Joint Special Operations Command ( JSOC ), the SEAL team leader replied, " Geronimo E.K.I.
