This is a ball and chain purchased from a local estate. It looks to be authentic but I am no expert. The estate handlers were not able to provide any history on it but the house was filled with many unusual antique items. The ball itself weighs 35 lbs. and the ball and chain together weigh about 42 lbs. The chain from the ball to the shackle is 30" and the ball is about 6" across and has a flat bottom. T are no markings that I can find. It appears that this ball was was made to be worn permanently using braded iron pins which are still present. Pictures tell the story.
