Read carefully, view all my auctions and save! A dramatic and unusual palette combined with French country flair. These old faience plates were beautifully hand painted. They are dinner sized and each has a bold yellow and black floral and fern border surrounding a French landscape One plate depicts two figures near a river with trees and a bridge structure in the background. The other plate shows a horse and rider at a water trough, trees and river in the background. This plate is signed near the bottom: looks like J Gola or Sola. The same person probably decorated both plates. On the back of each plate is the name Sceaux, in blue, with a stylized crown above and the number 1777 below. The painting and form is in 18th century style but these were probably made in the 1950s. Plates measure approximately 10 inches across. T are kiln prop marks on each. Firing flaws on both plates, one plate has one rim chip; the other has two rim chips and a few small nicks off the inner edge. Bidding begins at $175 with no reserve.
