Know I will not be seeing my cloisonne any longer from China!! My recent trips have been quite extensive and rarely saw anything but new and reproduction junk cloisonne. Imperial studio items were larger and very very expensive. This is an older turtle box. Beautifully done in Imperial cloisonne. Heavy bonze body!! All real Gold gilt. I invite you to compare this turtle to other auctions. Most do not realize the workmanship that goes into to making the old curio items. The detailing is same as larger so much harder to do. Also it is not realized that the old curios were very expensive comparision to size. Mint condition ~ never used. This has been safe in the warehouse for over 25 years. This is an older item...not the new junk!! This is one of the items from buried stock of over 25 years. The defined artwork, rich colors, materials, and the old process are characteristics of the Imperial Cloisonné. Each item is individually made and no two alike. The secrets of color and application, the Master's artisans, and the finest materials belonged exclusively to Imperial. The masters of Imperial Cloisonné produced the finest detailed and skilled enamelware. Imperial Cloisonné is no longer. Lesser quality items are being made with modern technology for inexpensive export, and antique copies to meet the American craze for replicas.
