Oriental Mother of Pearl Room Divider/Folding Screen Beautifully Handcrafted Two-Sided Design with Lacquer Finish This 6 panel 2 sided folding room divider is an excellent example of fine Oriental craftsmanship. It stands approx. 70 1/2" tall, with each panel measuring about 3/4" thick and approx. 15 1/2" wide, for a total length of about 8 feet!! Each panel has two legs with brass feet, and brass hinges hold them together. On the blue side, the background is a beautifully hand painted underwater scene with an intricate overlay of what appears to be mother of pearl of lots of fish, including what look like japanese koi, and some coral, with a shiny lacquer finish on each panel. The other side has a deep reddish-brown background with a painted mountain/forest scene with lots of overlay of large birds and trees, also with a shiny lacquer finish. I'm not sure of the age or origin of this divider, but I was told by an art dealer that it was probably around 100 years old. The brass feet and hinges are somewhat tarnished, and it appears that some of the hinge screws have been replaced. T are some cosmetic blemishes also, including minor scratches and some cracks in the finish. One of the cracks appears to have been filled(see picture below), and t are a few minor spots w small pieces of the overlay have fallen off. The last pictures read more
