This original MAP of North And South America is over 400 years old and shows the NEW WORLD (North and South America) as it was known in 1596, about 100 years after Columbus "discovered" America. Some scholars think of De Bry's images as a form of pre-newspaper , or as some call them- "VIEWS AS NEWS". These images brought to the European public the first realistic visualization of the exotic world opened up across the Atlantic by the explorers, conquerors and settlers from Christopher Columbus through the Spanish conquistadors. This specific MAP is titled: " America Sive Novus Orbis Respectu Europaeorum Inferior Globi Terrestris Pars 1596 and shows North and South America as it was known at the end of the 16th Century. De Bry's scarce and dramatic map of the New World shown in a sphere and bordered by full-length portraits of explorers Columbus, Vespucci, Magellan and Pizarro.
