Wonderful vintage Program of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo for the 1939 - 1940 season, under the direction of Leonide Massine. Wonderful cover art by Henri Matisse! Great photos of Alexandra Danilova, Alicia Markova, Mia Slavenska, Nini Theilade, Igor Youskevitch, Frederic Franklin, Roland Guerard, Lubov Rostova and many more. Includes wonderful color costume and scenery illustrations by Salvador Dali (yes, that Salvador Dali), Pavel Tchelitcheff, Eugene Berman and Pablo Picasso (yes, that Pablo Picasso). Program is in excellent condition in the interior with excellent pages. Front and back covers have come completely detached and have significant wear at the edges. Colors are still vibrant though as you can see from the pic. The picture is a good representation of cover condition. Wonderfully rare due to the artist illustrations in this edition! We recently acquired this and many other vintage ballet programs from the estate of noted Hollywood and Entertainment memorabilia collector, Lester Glassner. Enjoy this wonderful work of art!
