is a very nice IJA combat helmet. It has what may be part of a "Night attack" panel. I had a good friend who was in A-1-2 on Saipan/Tinian. I was showing him helmets on dealers sites and this one was on Bill Shea's site. He was amazed at the prices they were bringing. It sparked a memory of his of the Japanese night attacks he was in on Saipan. He said many of them had these type panels on their helmets and gear. I called Bill and bought it the next day. I am not saying this is a "Follow me" panel but just an attempt by this man to show he is Japanese in the confusion of a night attack. You can read about this being done in the book Tales of Japanese soldiers. Let me say for the record I have no proof that this panel on the pictured helmet is a night attack panel. I have no idea and no proof. I just had a friend who said it looked like and reminded him of what he saw them doing in 1944 on Saipan/Tinian. The helmet by itself stands tall. It has very good muddy brown paint. T is no hint of green. It is a brown helmet. The liner is really nice and all still intact and flexible. It is named on the inner rim. Chin ties combat worn but solid and intact. A very nice IJA combat helmet that looks good from all angles. Very nice helmet for anybody looking for IJA examples. It for sure has character you never see in or on any other IJA helmets. read more
