Terrific find! Maybe once in a lifetime? And luckily these people were named on the backs of the photos by a thoughtful family member. Wording on the photos is only on my ebay images here. Here are family Carte de Visites photos and one tintype, most dating from about 1862 to 1865, including two Civil War Veterans photos dating from about 1862 to 1864, brothers James C. Faris (1843 to 1916), 47th Illinois Volunteers, and John Graham Faris (1829 to 1907), 86th Illinois Volunteers. You can read some of the history. Look for Peoria County Illinois Civil War Veterans, Faris or you can search the names of the brothers. The family was from Peoria County, Illinois, and that is where the brothers were mustered in.There is quite a nice history written on John G. Faris, but not a lot on James C. Faris. John G. was in the 86th Illinois from 1862 to war's end and his unit participated in many battles, starting with the Battle of Perryville, KY, where the unit suffered its first casualties. Later the unit was in the Georgia campagn where it fought in the battles of Chickamauga, Resaca, Rome, Kennesaw Mountain, Peachtree Creek and Jonesboro. Also, in North Carolina, Averasboro and Bentonville. And also Sherman's March to the Sea, according to what is written on his history. Not as much on James C. but I read his unit was involved in Corinth, MS read more
