Welcome to Ezcapstores: ORIGINAL PRE CIVIL WAR OFFICER SWORD WITH EAGLE HEAD NR *** Up for bid amazing officer eagle head sword circa 1821. After long research on the internet web sites we find out this is an US Officer's sword. It is the type of weapon used by career army officers, troops in local state militias, and during the Mexican American War. Some even still were carried into the Civil War by older officers who refused to give-up their treasured freshman weapons from the start of their military careers. It has a fine ivory grip with few small chips. The down-turned guard has a spread-winged US eagle with the Union shield on its chest. Dark blade is 31 1/2 inches long, single edged.
