HELLO AND WELCOME TO MY AUCTION! This is a guaranteed ALL-ORIGINAL WWII USMC First Pattern camo cover. It is in used, extremely nice combat condition! It is the FIRST model and it does not have the foliage slits (button holes) that the second model had to insert branches or leaves. It is made of herring bone cloth and has a green side for the jungle and a brown side for the beach landing (not the desert as some people think). This camo cover is still sewed together with its original khaki thread. This cover does have the EGA stenciled on by the Marine Corps. It is solid and could still be used today in combat. It does not have any fouls odors and it is not dry rotted. This cover comes out of my personal collection and it comes from a non-smoking home. This cover has the usual tiny nips in the cloth associated with use in combat. T are three holes near the top part of this cover. One is approximately 2 inches long the other two are about the diameter of your index finger. All the cloth seems to be t, but they are holes. T is one hole farther down near the seam that your pinky finger might fit in, and t are two or three small holes that the tip of a pen might fit in. T are two slits cut in each side of this cover (usually cut by the Marine himself) to allow the helmet straps from the metal M-1 helmet to fit through. Both of these slits are approximately one inch in length (most of these covers that I have seen or owned were approximately 3 inches in length). This camo cover has nice dark camo colors considering w it has been and what it has been through. Someone wrote "U.S.M.C" on the green side of the cover with what looks like red marker. It is VERY faded now especially on the green side. In fact, I did not even notice it until I turned the cover inside out to the brown side to look it over to sell it. Even on the brown side it looks more pink than red. In my photos below, you will notice that the red marker looks much darker than it really looks to the naked eye. I used my new digital camera and for some reason the "U.S.M.C" looks much darker and more pronounced than it does to the naked eye. I have owned quite a few of these original covers and I have noticed that many of them have the Marine's name written in pen usually on the brown side. Most of these were personalized in some way by the Marine themselves. I believe that the "U.S.M.C" was written on this cover by the Marine long ago. I could not find any names written on this cover, but t is two blue colored "105" ink stamps on one of the flaps that goes inside between the metal helmet and the liner. Many of these camo covers never made it back to the States. Yes, quite a few Marine veterans brought their helmet home along with a few Japanese souvenirs, but many of them were simply torn up and worn out from battle. A large number of these covers were also burned in large piles on the Pacific Islands because Cholera and other deadly diseases were rampant on the islands that the Marines fought on. These covers and other uniforms were burned to try and stop the spread of these diseases. This is a very nice original USMC WW2 camo cover that is over 60 years old (since most of these were made in 1942 or 1943). The second model came out not too long after the first model. In 1950 when the Korean conflict began, t were some of these covers still around, but more were needed. A company named the "Blue Anchor Overall Co. Inc. manufactured more. These covers have a stamp on the brown side of one of the flaps. This cover DOES NOT have this stamp. None of the WWII covers had a manufacturing stamp on them. If you like USMC WWII items, this cover is a must for your collection! Don't confuse this cover with the repro fakes that are floating aroung now-a-days. This cover is not mint, but nothing would be that was actually used in combat. is your chance to own a real piece of history that has not been messed with. I do not clean, repair, pa...
