Papyrus Codex Page - Pauline Epistle Hebrews 1REPRODUCTION This is a REPRODUCTION of a single page based on a papyrus fragment known as Papyrus P46. It is a leaf from a codex written in uncial Greek dated to the middle second century AD.One scholar has dated it to 81 -96AD but consensus favors the mid second century. The manuscripts were found in Egypt in 1931, most likely in the ruins of a monastery or church, and was found along with two other papyri fragments namely P45 and P47. The pieces were divided up by the dealer who took them to Cairo for sale. Most of the fragments are divided between major museums in the USA and Ireland. The codex had 104 leaves of which only 86 remained. This page is of the start section of Paul's letter to the Hebrews but includes the last line of his letter to Romans at the top of the page above the heading.. This is the oldest copy of Paul's Epistle and is dated on Paleographic terms, and has some similarities to the Codex Vaticanus B making it of the "Alexandrian" family or texts.Because of the amount of Paul's writings within this codex that still remains it has become an important items for studying the Pauline tradition. This reproduction is made on Papyrus from Egypt that we have "aged" to look like the original on which it is based. It is mounted in a laminated sleeve for ease of handling.Papyrus read more
