Very Rare Pennsylvania Globe Blowtorch - This quart-size, gasoline-fuel blowtorch has all of the characteristics of the November 19, 1889 William P. Butler Patent No. 415,613. Unmarked torches with these features are referred to as “Butler Patented Blowtorches”. The torch listed here is a very rare example with the additional soldered brass nameplate reading “PENNSYLVANIA GLOBE COMPANY PHILADELPHIA” and “GLOBE TORCH”. The top of the tank is additionally marked with the oval “GLOBE TRADE MARK” placed just in front of the upper support for the pump assembly. The tank is made of sheet brass with the overlapping seam at the rear of the tank being soldered. The top of the torch is made of heavy, thick cast brass which is soldered to the tank. The bottom brass skirt is also soldered to the tank. The pump rod, shutoff arm, drip cup, and control arm are the only steel parts of this torch. The torch is, unfortunately, in less than perfect condition. The right side of the tank has several shallow dings while the right-front part has two small indentions, neither penetrating the tank. Also, about 1 1/2 inches of the bead around the bottom of the skirt on the right side of the torch is missing.
