PERU "1715 PLATE FLEET" ~ NGC 50 ~ DescriptionPERU 1712 "FULL DOUBLE DATE!" 8 ESCUDOS NGC 50 GOLD DOUBLOON COB COIN ~ 1715 FLEET SHIPWRECKThis Cob really appears to be struck almost as a "Presentation Piece or ROYAL," with its near perfectly shaped round Planchet / flan. It's even more perfectly round then several presentation pieces, especially Cob pieces! It also has the bottom part of the numbers for the crucial DOUBLE DATE! (you can view at 10 O'Clock on the Pillar side). Perhaps the most beautiful attribute of this Gold Doubloon is it's LUSTER!!! The Original Luster has been described as if the coin has some internal light source powering it, well said!!! We also have a 1712 Double dated piece in MS 63 as well, and this piece certainly has Equal Luster of that MS coin! This example almost displays a FULL CROWN. This Golden Cob has (upon close examination) a piece of residual encrustation (just to the left of the Cross End cap), fully representing it's Pedigree to the 1715 FLEET Sunken Shipwreck! The Strike on this piece is extraordinary, especially on the Legends (Front & Reverse). The Centering on this piece is WELL above Average on "BOTH" sides! Overall, a well above average 1712 Double Date FLEET Shipwreck piece with Superb Golden Luster, that of a full Mint State piece!(Weight is 26.8 gms FR-7; KM-38.2; Cal-Type-5#23).The read more
