The Scooter In The Minors -- 1939 The radio in this auction was presented to Phil Rizzuto when he was one of the standout players on The Yankees farm team, the Kansas City Blues. It was given to him by the American Association, at that time a minor league. The Scooter's autograph appears above the plaque that is attached to this GE radio, which was once part of the Barry Halper baseball memorabilia collection. The piece shows its age and the leather/fabric handle at top is rotted in half. The GE logo is a bit bumped up. I opened the back of the radio so that you can see the tubes and wires. The shot of the back does not show the screws that hold the back on, which will be in place when the winner receives this item. This is a nice and meaningful piece of memorabilia, especially considering Rizzuto went on to a career in broadcasting. I don't know if a radio buff could get this back in working order, but right now you won't hear Rizzuto, or for that matter, anyone else on it. If you'd like a great nostalgic story about how The Scooter signed a kid's program at one of those 1939 games check out Bill Mayer's "Rizzuto one hall of a guy" at the Lawrence Journal-World and News .
