Hello Lehigh & Hudson River (L&HR) and DL&W Sussex Branch fans & collectors . . . For your consideration - this 6½x10" b&w glossy print photograph of L&HR ALCO RS2 #4 leading a Lehigh & Hudson River freight near Cranberry Lake, on Lackawanna's Sussex Branch in July of 1960. (Please see scan of photo loading below.) Grinding upgrade out of Andover, just west of Cranberry Lake on the Sussex Branch… Lehigh & Hudson River RS3 #4 and another RS have interchange freight destined for the Lackawanna at Port Morris. This train originated on the L&HR in Warwick, NY., traveled west to Andover Jct., w it picked up the Sussex Branch to head compass south to Netcong and the DL&W Port Morris yard. Notice the semaphore which protects the passing track at Cranberry Lake – just ahead. The highway is Route 206…looking north. The rails and ties you see in this photo have been gone for 30 years now – replaced today by a small cinder path which is part of a public parks trail stretching from Waterloo to the end of the Sussex Branch at Branchville, NJ. (This print was professionally darkroom-processed from an original negative.) Please click to see more photos of "Fallen Flag" railroads in this area, which I am currently listing - Thanks, Norm.
