Carter 1852 Bible given to J C Crane From His Mother Given from a mother to a son (James C. Crane) going to battle to serve the Confederate army in 1864. Most everything is legible and very interesting. He was wounded in the battle of the Wilderness May 6, 1864 and there is a picture of him in later years (he looks to be in his 70's) with a cane. There is a letter written by his mother. The binding is pulling away and the leather cover is kind of fragile, nonetheless, this is awesome. There is a news clipping glued to the back pages"Lines by a Mother in her Son's Bible" wow the first time I read that I got goosebumps. There is a note on the back cover reminding James to read Solomon and to pray. James C. Crane's obituary is in the Bible Also. A Card from a funeral of "Baby Harris" was inside the pages dated 1917. What a piece of Americana. Browne Auction Specialists Since 1979
