24" X 12" old heavy porcelain advertising sign for Knight Spring Canyon Coal. The sign was nailed up at some time in the past and has additional nail holes near the grommets. Other than that, just ordinary wear and a few scratches on back. As you can see, it's a real beauty and a no-doubter when it comes to authenticity. The colors are dark blue and yellow and it was made by baking on the yellow first and then the dark blue, so that the blue background is over the yellow lettering. On back you can see the dimpling of the old porcelain and the roller marks from the baking process......When last checked, t was a biography for sale on ebay about Jesse Knight, the legendary Utah Businessman who owned Knight Coal. He also has a page on Wikipedia. T is also lots of info on the company that is available if you just search for Jesse Knight or Spring Canyon Coal on one of the internet search sites, like Google. It seems that the company began about 1912 and that the town of Storrs, UT was renamed to Spring Canyon. The mine t shipped coal on the Denver And Rio Grande Railroad, the D&RG or D&RGW. West of Helper, Utah, you can still follow Spring Canyon road to the sites of several old mining ghost towns.......Nice for anyone interested in: Mining History, Coal Mining, Porcelain Signs, Old Advertising Signs, Country Store Collectibles, Utah read more
