POST WWII JAPANESE, VINTAGE SAMURAI GOURD & LEMON JUICE VINTAGE GOURD SETWELL, DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND AND REQUESTS FROM FOLK WHO FAILED TO WIN THE RONIN SAMURAI TEQUILLA AND LEMON GOURD SET, I HAVE FOUND ANOTHER SET TO LIST. THIS IS ABOUT THE CLEANEST ONE I HAVE FOUND SO FAR AS LIQQER GOURDS GO. ALSO, THE MOST HISTORICAL THAT RELATES TO MY NATIVE LAND (FURUSATO) OF TEXAS W I WAS A COWBOY IN DAYS OF YORE. YOUNG FOLK HAVE BECOME TEQUILA DRINKERS LATELY, BUT STILL LOVE THE COWBOY RONIN SAMURAI TRADITIONS, WHICH ARE THE SAME MOSTLY. THIS SET IS SIZED FOR TEQUILLA AND LEMON JUICE. Unfortunately it is EMPTY as t are so many 'RULES' nowadays in America and hoops folks jump through on demand, that the vessels will need to be REFILLED over t as they could bring down an entire FLEET of Aeroplanes if shipped full. But the GOURDS are what is NEATO!! The larger Gourd was found in an EDO ERA old store that has become 'Off The BeatenTrack' Tourist Route. T were four in an Old Glass case and I got them all!! End of July '08!! Up on the slopes of the Sacred Mount Takao. Near my Hovel. So, the Gourd is Vintage, made in the last century and far older than a Minion and in as good of condition too!! The smaller is older than that, I was rold and believe, but still nice and clean for lemom Juice - or Branch Water. So, overall we call this a VINTAGE set as it is carrying on the Samurai Tradition of the fighters that had to go as mercenaries to fight with Pancho Villa or others in the Southwest since swords were OUTLAWED in Japan by the Bardeymotto Bill after the EDO ERA and they were starving. while t, they learned to LOVE tequilla and brought the custom home and now the Great Grand Kids are Suckin Em Up!! ANYWAY, AS BACKGROUND; PART OF THIS IS FROM BACK IN OUGHT FIVE: IT IS FOR BACKGROUND ONLY FOR FOLKS THAT ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THESE ARTIFACTS!! I have been looking all over with limited success for more Samurai Natural Gourd Drinking Sets, but have not had any luck until I checked with my dealer buddy w I bought the other sets just lately at Kawagoe Temple Fair. Stoppers, real silk wrappings cords and everything was t and Original and all in Very Good to Fine condition for the age. The shape and color are great on this set too. They have Beautiful Patina on them and both are wrapped as originally and also have their Japanese Wooden Stoppers. He said the small one was made in Japan in around the mid 1900's and was used as a NETSUKE to keep the LARGER Gourd from slipping through your OBI, or belt. (This one is for a belt with a big silver buckle.) I know this man from a long way back and he is a card! Lived in the U.S. But, he does know History and loves Antiques. He said, Samurai went to America long, long ago and fought t True, I know and also Europe. But he said this tiny Netsuke Gourd was for Lemon Juice. I said WHAT? What for? He said t were several Samurai that fought with Pancho Villa in Mexico, developed a taste for TEQUILA and, later could have it sent from Mexico to Japan CHEAP. So, they carried TEQUILA in the Big Gourd, Lemon Juice in the Netsuke Gourd to not lose it all, a little sea salt in their Kimono sleeve and were set to go. He said he had a MATCHED Pair of later period Bourbon or Scotch and Water set this time. Dad gum! I paid an arm and a leg and grabbed this one! I will make a 'Old Stump Puller' brand Bourbon Cowboy Set (Or Tequilla) ASAP and try it out around the Village! I wondered why all the young folks are wearing Cowboy Boots nowadays. HOWEVER!! These can still be used for Tequila too I discovered! This explains it all. I will research also, the Dealer is actually a good guy and friend, but I best check what he told me. If any Samurai fought with Pancho - and they learned about Tequila making you *BULLETPROOF* and Handsome, Centuries before, then he may be right that the younger Generation that loved Cowboys took a liking to Bourbon and Branch Water like they saw on Western Movies., so they had this type Traveling Cowboy Set.
