PRE WWII JAPAN ERA-MINT HANDPAINTED SIGNED KUTANI SAKE CUPTHIS IS THE BEST KUTANI SAKE CUP I HAVE FOUND LATELY AND T WAS ONLY THIS SINGLE ONE. RATS!! IT WAS GLAZED, THEN THEY MADE THE DETAILED PAINTINGS, IN SUCH TINY DETAIL, THEN FIRED IT SOME MORE I THINK. I WILL NEVER KNOW HOW THEY DID IT. I HOPE WHOEVER SEES THIS DOES. KUTANI IS FAMOUS AND WORK LIKE THIS IS HARD TO FIND. It has the sacred Mount Fuji San in the mist with gold Accents or dots and t, a grass roofed farm village and farmer in his straw raincoat (it's snowing though) and other details. Everything is handpainted and is very hard to photograph. You need to hold it a FEEL it and turn it in the sunshine. The photos will have to tell the story on this one. I was impressed that from a distance, you can not see or FEEL the value! They catch your eye from afar and sort of draw you in. Did me anyway. It is AMAZING. I tried to catch the depth in photos and failed to get it very well. Tfore, I have tried to arrange the photos as a person sort of ZOOMS in and realizes what they hold in their hand. As usual, t is no way to capture in photos, the actuality of holding the pieces in your hands. You can not get this cup made for you anymore. I am saving these things as fast as I can, because Occidentals know a LOT more about fine ceramics of the last century than the young folks At least they saved them from being demolished along with the old farmhouse. I try to watch for demolition and talk to the owners and save all kinds of things if I can. The circumstances are about the same, since this is what I mainly search for - how these came on the market and you probably read it before, but briefly again for new folks that have found this. They was given as a present in the first part of the last century to these young folk's' Grandparents, or other relatives, they passed on, t is no room in modern day Tokyo w they moved to get work and be in the 'Action', they live in tiny concrete box rooms and t are no closets for these fine things as t was in the old Furusato Homeland Farmhouse in the mountains, the young folks don't much care anyway as they would rather have some Plastic Handbag made by Louie Da Vittyion or some such thing or go Boogy, so it surfaces, they sell it to a dealer and I grab it if I am lucky enough to find it. Lately, since dealers have known me for years and we trust each other and they know what I want, they search it out for me and bring it to Tokyo, since trains cost money to go far out in the countryside. So, it is. Formally a dust covered forgotten treasure, up for auction to someone who appreciates it. I believe the dealer since I have known him for years and I also learned, that this cup is Pre WWII - and had avoided having all their METALS and tools, etc. confiscated for 'War Effort'. As usual with my finds, I try to find OLD, but brand NEW unused or very little used things and this appears the same. No Damage, no wear that I can see except a little on the foot w it was used and very well taken care of and protected until forgotten on a shelf. Probably sitting in a closet since the wedding day or very special occasion and never used except maybe a very few times on special occasions. They worked sunup to sunset then - no day off and now we don't and we can enjoy these fine things. Please push that 'other Items button' and see what all else I got off with recently.
