Antique Wool Cape and Coat with Embroidered Trim and Fur Germany 1885 Philadelphia Estate Attic Find Collection Dates Circa 1860-1890This dress is one of a collection of doll dresses found in a trunk of a Philadelphia, PA Estate. The trunk contained over 40 doll dresses dating from the 1860's -1890. The family home was built just prior to 1860 by John and Rose Donoghue, the trunk belonged to one of their daughter's, Anna. Most of the dresses are from 1880-1890 but six of the dresses are from the 1860's and were brought over from Liverpool, England when her parents immigrated to the United States. The dresses have been lightly laundered and pressed as they had been locked in a trunk with papers and furs for more than 100 years. Some have a lot of wear and some are in great condition. This is one of two pieces in the entire lot from Germany, it was given to Anna on Christmas in 1885. They were sent from her grandmother who was traveling in Europe. The coat with a cape is made of a fine light weight dark blue wool and trimmed in fur that is attached with embroidered trim. There are tiny sleeves too with cuffs trimmed in fur as well. It is well made and all completely hand stitched. The fur is in great condition for it's age but I do believe it may have been trimmed from the collar at some point and there is a small section of fur missing read more
