QUEBEC and LAKE ST. JOHN RAILWAY PASS, 1903 This is one of the most attractive railway passes that we have seen in awhile. This pass #1163 was issued to Wm. Robert Bell, MD, Dept. Head and Dir. of the Geological Survey of Canada.It has a very beautiful vignette of a silvered fish leaping out of the water for a butterfly. On the left in the Q of the name Quebec is a train engine. It has a wonderful outdoor scene. On the reverse is a map in vertical format of the company's route to the "far-famed Saguenay". It has been countersigned by Alex Hardy, Gen. Passgr. Agt. This unusual pass is in very good condition. HISTORY The Quebec and Lake St. John Railway Company was incorporated under Quebec Act, 32 Vic., Cap. 53 of 5 April 1869 as the Quebec and Gosford Railway Company. This railroad resulted from a name change from the Quebec and Gosford Ry. Co. in 1870 when it was authorized to build a tramway or railway line from Gosford to a point on Lake St. John. On 24 December 1870 the name was changed to the Quebec and Lake St. John Railway Company. In 1883 it obtained the right to build into the Lake St. John region. A 249 mile line from Loretteville near Quebec to Roberval and Chicoutimi was constructed between 1881 and 1893.
