ITEM DESCRIPTION: You are bidding on a finely carved and painted cedar wood totem pole signed "GARY RICE" that measures approx. 18" high x 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" + 5/8" thick base with wingspan of 17 3/4" Great wood grain! This fabulous totem pole was purchased at the Ye Olde Curiosity Shop at Pier 54 on Alaskan Way and has store tag on back as seen in photo. S ee picture of Seattle curio shop in this listing! Gary Rice was born June 30, 1939 aboard a fishing boat at Rivers Inlet, British Columbia, and is a Coastal Salish Native artist. Gary was a friend of the late great Ray Williams, and they would sit along W estern Ave. between Pike Place Market and Seattle waterfront carving their wonderful totems with only a pocket knife. Gary suffered a stroke several years ago and his totem pole days are over. Gary at his best! Very nice pole and rare opportunity to have Gary's totem in your collection! ITEM CONDITION: Excellent!!!
