Living on the coast of North Carolina and loving oysters as we do, it was a natural inclination for us to accumulate a collection of over 30 different oyster plates over the years. However, we lost interest in collecting oyster plates about ten years ago, when the market became increasingly flooded with reproductions - a disheartening situation which continues today - and which I'm sure, many of you collectors are aware of. Our oyster plate collection has since then been languishing away, hidden and unseen, in drawers and cupboards with no one to appreciate them and I find its once again time for some Spring House Cleaning! Although I would not be considered an expert; the oyster plates I am offering this week are described to the best of my ability and are all "as found", prior to 1998- before the rather obvious "Nippon" with its telltale pink hit the market and tby starting, to our dismay, the deluge of copies and reproductions that began to appear everyw with increasing frequency, as well as artistic inventiveness!

Please check out my other oyster plate listings, t are sure to be some great bargains for collectors of authentic antique and vintage pieces and I will be happy to combine shipping. Stay tuned for more of our collection in future listings.

Rare ANTIQUE M. REDON Limoges Oyster Plate

With the green underglaze mark of M. Redon for 1891-1896 and the red overglaze decorator Mark 3 (Gaston's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain), the rococo porcelain plate is slightly rectangular in shape with curved corners and beautifully molded with five scroll embossed wells and a small sauce well at the bottom, all overlaid with gold paste depicting seashells, coral, fernery and foliage, the scalloped and scrolled rim edges brushed with gold (see this plate with slightly different decoration on P. 86 of Karsnitz); in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks or repair that I can see.
7 ½ inches x 8 inches.
Payment by Paypal within 3 days, money order or cashier's check within 7 days. Although the plate will be very well packed, insurance is recommended.
