RARE Roman Catholic Priest Hat Cappello Romano Roman Hat This is an old and rare hat. It is not a Fedora or party costume. It is a REAL Priest hat (Cappello Romano-Roman Hat) . It has a wide brim curled just a little on the sides. The hat allow you to put the flocks - Ecclesiastical tassels on the Sides It is in very good used condition This is the best one I have ever owned The fur is in excellent order; the silk brim cords for the flocks are not frayed or damaged The silk ribbon is in Excellent Condition as Well I do not see the old ones often RARE You are bidding on A Cappello Romano (literally Roman hat) or saturno (because it is reminiscent of the ringed planet Saturn) is a hat with a wide, circular brim and a rounded rim worn by Catholic clergy in the past. It is made of either beaver fur or felt, and lined in white silk. Unlike many other articles of ecclesiastical attire - for example birettas, chasubles, dalmatics...... it serves no ceremonial purpose, being primarily a practical item, worn in private life.
