German-born artist Willy Seiler lived in Karuizawa, Japan in the 1950s and 1960s. He was well known for his prints and sketches. He did an often-reproduced sketch of General MacArthur, and at least one cover for "Time." His delightful folk dolls were pretty much a sideline to him and are rare. A Tokyo Service Club held a Seiler Exhibit in 1954, and I purchased this three-part set, in which the doll is costumed as a Japanese schoolboy. Also included were two types of rural clothing with footgear. They were standard "geta", for outside wear; "waraji (straw sandals) for work on the farm, and "tabi." A large straw farmer's hat completes the collection. I have been looking on the internet and ebay for Willy Seiler Dolls for years. I have not found any. Now add these rare items to your collections. Doll is 24 inches high. Sold as a three-piece set.Will be shipped as a single entity. Ebay-calculated shipping charges shown are not accurate!
